The Rules

Please read the following rules carefully. Any submission that does not comply with contest rules and regulations may be disqualified.

RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. All writers of submitted material must be 18 years of age or older. Each writer or writing team may not have earned more than $25,000 (jointly or individually) for work as a screenwriter and/or fictional television writer.

  2. Scripts must be the original work of the author(s) and may not be encumbered by any third party. Scripts that have been sold, produced, or are currently under option are not eligible.

  3. Adaptations of books, plays, or other source material written by another author are not eligible under any circumstances; nor are scripts adapted from books, plays, or other source material written by you if your source material has been sold, produced, or is currently under option to any third party. Scripts adapted from your own self-published books, plays, or other source material are eligible if you have retained all rights to your work.

  4. Writers who reside in countries other than the United States are welcome to enter the contest; however, all scripts must be submitted in English and entry fees must be paid in U.S. dollars. Entry in the competition is void where prohibited by law.

  5. Scripts written by teams of two or more writers are eligible. If a co-authored script wins an award, prizes will be divided equally among all writers listed.

  6. To qualify for the competition, your submission must include:

    • Your Script(s)
    • Completed Entry Summary
    • Appropriate Payment

You may submit your entry either online or by mail. No preference will be given to either method of submission.

  7. Once a script has been entered in the competition, under no circumstances will we accept substitutions of new drafts or corrected pages. If you wish to submit a revised draft of your script, you must enter it as a new submission and pay the appropriate entry fee.

  8. The competition is not responsible for submissions that are lost, stolen, or damaged in transit, and we cannot return scripts once they have been submitted. Please retain an original copy of your screenplay.

  9. Submissions must be postmarked or transmitted electronically on or before the Early, Regular or Late Entry deadline in order to qualify for that submission rate. (Online entries may be submitted up until midnight Pacific Time on the deadline date.) Any entries postmarked or transmitted after the final deadline will be disqualified.

  10. Decisions of the judges are final and may not be disputed. The judges will follow PAGE Awards contest guidelines and standard JUDGING PROCEDURE; however, the contest and its administrators may not be held responsible for any errors or omissions on the part of the judges.

SCRIPT FORMAT & GUIDELINES

  1. Scripts must be submitted in English.

  2. Scripts must be written in standard spec screenplay or teleplay format, set in 12-point Courier font. If you're not familiar with standard formatting, we recommend the following book as a guide: The Screenwriter's Bible by David Trottier. You may also use one of the popular software programs specifically designed to help you format your script. We recommend Movie Magic Screenwriter or Final Draft.

  3. Scripts should be standard length.

    • Full-Length Features: 80-130 pages
    • Short Film Scripts: under 40 pages
    • TV Drama Pilots: 50-70 pages
    • TV Sitcom Pilots: 30-50 pages

Your script will not be disqualified if it is longer or shorter than these specified lengths; however, for your own benefit we highly recommend that you adhere to industry standards.

  4. Print your script single-sided on plain white three-hole-punched paper and bind it with two brads. Please do not use extra-large or too-small brads as they make scripts difficult to handle. You can order industry standard brads online at The Writers Store.

  5. Pages must be numbered. If you're submitting your script by mail, please make sure there are no missing or duplicated pages.

  6. Include a standard title page listing the title of your script, name of author(s), mailing address, telephone number, and email address. Judging will be anonymous, so we will delete or black out your name and contact information before we give your script to the judges. They will identify your screenplay by title and script number only.

  7. Under no circumstances should you include your name or contact information within the body of your script.

  8. If you're submitting your script by mail, please include card stock covers (front and back) to protect your script during handling by our staff and judges. Standard card stock covers are available online at The Writers Store. You may print the title of your script on the front cover or you may leave it blank, but please do not print your name or contact information on the cover of your script.

  9. Contestants who reside outside the U.S. may use A4 size paper or other standard paper and binding used by industry professionals in your region.

  10. Please do not enclose synopses, casting suggestions, letters, resumes or photos with your submission. They will not be forwarded to the judges. However, if you're submitting a TV Pilot you may include standard supplementary materials, such as lists of recurring characters and future episodes.

While it is not a contest entry requirement, we do recommend you register your script before submitting it to any company or individual you do not personally know. You can register your script by mail with the U.S. Copyright Office, or you can register online with ProtectRite or the WGA. As disinterested third parties, these services establish the completion date of your registered material and offer the security of long-term storage in the event your original is lost or destroyed.
